What we do…
At the NHS Benchmarking Network we:
Source
Collect data that could provide insight or answer a question, either through publicly available data sources or through data collection.
Curate
Cleanse, transform and validate the data, checking for issues and inconsistencies, ensuring the reliability of the data. Anonymise the data where required.
Analyse
Examine the data looking for patterns and trends that help us understand the data. Benchmark the data to allow for organisation-to-organisation comparison.
Visualise
Produce outputs that summarise and visually display the data to enable users to digest the information using charts, dashboards and summaries.
Collaborate
Digesting the data collaboratively to find meaning and learning. Enabling users to identify areas for investigation and improvement.
The NHS Benchmarking Network delivers multiple programmes of work and all of our programmes of work are guided by these five steps.
Membership Programme
Why the Network originally formed, offering a programme of benchmarking opportunities and insights to inform decision making within NHS and healthcare organisations. Healthcare organisations are welcome to join.
Workforce Programme
The NHS Benchmarking Network works in collaboration with NHS England Workforce, Training and Education Directorate (NHSE WT&E) on a workforce benchmarking for health and care programme.
Audit Programme
The Network has an established position as a provider of National Audits. Teaming up with partners across a range of healthcare sectors, we are best placed for insight and intelligence to underpin improvement work.
Find out more about the audits below.
National Clinical Audits currently delivered by the NHS Benchmarking Network:
The Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Audit (CVDPREVENT) is part of a broader strategic objective outlined in the Long Term Plan to prevent 150,000 strokes, heart attacks and cases over dementia over the next ten years. The audit prioritises working with system partners to drive CVD quality improvement at individual GP, PCN and ICS level.
The National Audit of Care at the End of Life (NACEL) is a national comparative audit of the quality and outcomes of care experienced by the dying person and those important to them during the last admission leading to death in acute hospitals, community hospitals and inpatient providers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The NHS England Learning Disability Improvement Standards (NHSE LDIS) review is a national collection designed to understand the extent of organisational compliance with the NHSE Learning Disability Improvement Standards. It identifies improvement opportunities and reflects the strategic objectives and priorities described in national policies.
